I certainly feel pretty privileged to to be able to keep it shooting for a few more decades yet I'm going to hazard a guess and say mid-50's is about as old as they come for single-owner cameras in 2020. It's back now and feeling like a new camera. I ran a quick test roll through to make sure everything was more or less functional, and then sent it off to Australian Rollei wizard Vic Plant for a full overhaul. The 2.8D had obviously been well used and well cared for, but likely sitting in a cupboard for a couple of decades. The seller and I spent about half an hour chatting about screw mount Pentax's and the work of Frank Hurley (apparently the original owner grew up in PNG and was a huge fan), before settling on a price that kept everyone happy. I picked up this 1956 Rolleiflex 2.8D (Planar) on Gumtree a few weeks ago from a local gent who was selling on behalf of his recently passed Godfather, who had bought the camera new in his early 30's (he was late 90's when he passed). In amongst all the overpriced AE1's and K1000's, occasionally the local classifieds come up with a gem
